NSS SPECIAL CAMP REPORT 2014-2015
Development
of human resource is the main function of education. The overall objective of
NSS is educational and service to the community. It is meant for personality
development of the volunteers by their
activities and through the awareness to the community to which they live. They get
ample opportunity to serve the people in their surroundings and to understand
their needs. NSS essentially is a student –centred programme and aims at all-round
development of the volunteers through community work.
The
seven day NSS camp of GVHSS Ramavarmapuram, titled “Nairmalyam” was conducted from
20-12-2014 to 26-12-2014 at Govt: Training Institute for Hindi Teachers, Ramavarmapuram,
Thrissur. Our project emphasised ‘Cleanliness’ and many types of agricultural
activities in the partnership village - Padookad Sandhya Gramam.
The
activities conducted were carried out under the following categories.

Cleaning activities

Agricultural activities
·
Waste management
·
Energy conservation
·
Blood donation
·
Health oriented programmes
20-12-2014 Saturday
The
camp commenced with registration at 11 am and after that icebreaking session
started. The ice breaking session gave a new experience to the volunteers. The
special camp was inaugurated at 3 pm by Mr.
P.V. Manojkumar, The Principal of Govt. Hindi Teachers Training
Institute at Ramavarmapuram by planting the saplings of “Lakshmitharu”. In his
inaugural session he said how a volunteer should be in a camp as well as in his
life. PTA president Mr. P.V. Mohan presided
over the function. Principal Dr. C.J. Bindu welcomed the dignitaries, parents
and students. Programme officer Smt. Sheela K.R. thanked each and every one
presented in the function.
At 5 pm, the padayathra
“Gramadarshan” to Padukkad Sandhyagramam started from the Govt.Hindi TTI
RVPuram, giving the message “Cleanliness is godliness”.
The following evening
session witnessed various activities organised by the students who were divided
into five groups. All the groups had duties assigned to them. Shortfilm fest was conducted everyday from 7
pm -8 pm. After supper cultural programmes were conducted everyday from 8.30pm
to 10pm.
21-12-2014 Sunday
The day started with yoga at 6.30 am
by Sri. Balaram, District Yoga Trainer. After breakfast we assembled in the
hall where the volunteers started with NSS song, followed by the message for
the day, activity report of the previous day and the camp paper. At 10 am there was a class on
creative meditation by psychological trainer, Sri.Sreejith which influenced the students very much. In
the afternoon session Dr. Major Satheesh led a practical class on First Aid and
Disaster Management. It was a new experience to us and we got many safety tips
too. As usual, short film fest and
cultural programmes were there in the night. At 9 pm PAC member Shri. Jony
Augustine visited our camp and shared wonderful moments with the volunteers.
22-12-2014
Monday
The
day started with yoga, followed by NSS song, message of the day, report
presentation and camp paper presentation. Our project “Pipe compost” was started that day. Our Principal Dr. C.J. Bindu inaugurated the preparation of pipe compost in
the Govt: Training Institute for Hindi Teachers campus. We prepared two compost
units in the campus venue before installing the compost pipes. Our Principal
gave a brief class to volunteers about the importance of waste management and
installation of pipe compost. Saplings of different plants and vegetables were
prepared to plant in the partnership village. Pipe compost was installed in 15
houses ensuring bio-composting and thereby keeping premises clean.
It gave awareness to the importance of waste management. we reached
camp at 4 o’clock and had a stress
management class by Smt. Saritha Ajayan
of Jiva Prenav
Kendra, Nedumbassery. It was a
laudable session on stress relief . At 9 pm we had a surprise visit by Sri. Fazil,
NSS state co-ordinator. The interaction
with Fazil Sir was highly inspiring.
23-12-2014
Tuesday
As usual the 4th day
we began with yoga. After breakfast we gathered in the hall at
9.30 am for regular activites. We completed our pipe compost project and moved with vegetable
gardening that day. We also did wiring maintenance in same houses. The
afternoon session started with the class “ Manassu Nannavatte” by Sivan Nenmanikara . It changed the
volunteer’s attitude towards life. It was a heart touching experience to all. 4th
day programme ended with cultural programmes.
24-12-2015
Wednesday
The fifth day started as usual. We had a hands-on
training in soap making by Sri. Arumukhan
highlighting importance of Swadeshi movement in the present scenario. The
session also included preparation of
bag, flower vase and various led products. Afternoon session was the renovation
of the TTI Hostel. Volunteers actively
participated and proved the strength of team work. We made a beautiful crib
and sang Christmas carol deep into
night. Our Christmas celebration was a memorable one.
25-12-2014
Thursday
After Yoga and routine events, we
started at 10 am to Ashabhavan to celebrate Xmas with the inmates. Both the members of Ashabhavan and volunteers show cased their talents. We
shared Biriyani with them and helped them to clean the kitchen hall. At the
time of farewell, we could not hold
back our tears. It was a new experience to the volunteers. In
the evening we cleaned the camp premises and followed the regular activities.
26-12-2014
Friday
On the last day of our camp, we had
a final cleaning of the camp and premises. The closing ceremony started with
NSS song, message, report presentation, camp paper, feedback and evaluation.
PTA President Sri.P.V. Mohan inaugurated
the function. Principal in charge Smt.Priya.K.B lowered the flag
indicating the culmination of the 7 day camp. All volunteers whole hearted
service was noticed in the camp. This camp was an eye opener towards social
commitments and to be a responsible citizen in future.
